About Us
Hello everyone, we are Mitsuko (on the left), and Michiko (on the right), and we are sisters. We come from Jakarta, Indonesia. Mitsuko is a high school student studying in California. Michiko is a college student studying at UC Berkeley for Environmental Science. We are both passionate about sustainability and entrepreneurship. Growing up in Indonesia has caused our dream to help build awareness and create an impact to protect the Indonesian seas. Indonesia is an archipelago, so growing up marine life has always surrounded us.
In high school, we both attended the Marine Ecology Research Program and were immediately inspired to start marine conservation actions through Seakeeper by our concerns with the vast challenges and fascination with the prompt solutions needed. After living abroad for some time, we have visited and studied many different oceans and beaches. We observed the differences in the conservation endeavors to preserve the seas in California and back home. It breaks our hearts as Indonesia is such a beautiful country filled with diverse marine cultures and thousands of islands, but there is a staggering absence of initiatives towards safeguarding the ocean. Our mission here is to protect the marine diversity of our country for generations to come, from all the pollution and threats that the lack of awareness has caused. As a way to connect, give back, and serve the environment that has given us so much, we are educating the children in our Indonesian communities about these concerns from a young age. Since we started, we have reached students and schools in the coastal regions of Indonesia, and we are striving to broaden our influence towards ocean conservancy.
Every little thing matters and we are starting today.
